The Monk: Martin Luther Part 2

This week on Fresh Ground Theology’s The Weekend Cup, Martin Luther enters an Augustinian monastery searching for peace with God. We follow Luther through his struggles with sin and judgment, his ordination as a Catholic priest, his pilgrimage to Rome, his study of Scripture, and his developing understanding of justification and the righteousness of God.

Then the preaching of indulgences by Johann Tetzel brings Luther into a controversy he never could have anticipated. We explore the historical context behind indulgences and the Ninety-Five Theses, including the famous—but historically debated—story of Martin Luther nailing his theses to the Castle Church door in Wittenberg on October 31, 1517.
